Weekly Update from the Executive Director, Michael Roberts [30 August 2018]

Dear Members and Friends,

On the 28th September golfers across the country will be polishing their clubs (or maybe not) in preparation for AusCham’s major annual charity event, the Grand Final Golf Scramble. The event is held in three locations, HCMC, Da Nang and Hanoi and this year we expect around 170 golfers to take part. The event format, which is a Scramble or more commonly known in Aus as an Ambrose, is an easy event for those who don’t play golf regularly and are concerned about their form as the nature of the game makes it easy to participate and have fun, in fact it’s often referred to as “hit and giggle”. That doesn’t mean that the serious golfers don’t have a serious crack, but because of the way the handicap is applied it’s just as likely that a bunch of C grade handicappers can win as a team of A grade players. While I try to have fun whenever I play golf some of my most memorable rounds have been at these types of events when people are relaxed and it’s not too serious. In HCMC this year the laughs will be augmented by the presence of a well-known Aussie comedian, but more about that later.

Proceeds are donated to eligible charities, and last year the recipient was Heart Reach Australia, who do amazing work in Vietnam. If you’re interested in putting a team together or would just like to come along and join another group of players please click through the advertising banner above.
