AusCham is delighted to announce the appointments of Michael Johnston and Quentin Derrick, respectively, to the positions of:

– AusCham Representative (Hoi An); and

– AusCham Representative ( Da Nang).

Over the past year, both Michael (previously a Hanoi Board Member of Auscham) and Quentin (English Language Institute (University of Queensland) at Danang University) have been providing AusCham with a presence and a voice on the ground in Hoi An and Danang through our monthly Sundowners functions.

Significantly, Michael and Quentin are playing key roles in promoting and helping to organise AusCham’s upcoming “Welcome Back Aussie Alumni” event in Danang on Sunday, 1 February 2014 (this event will also be held in Hanoi, Nha Trang and HCMC) – but until now, their work has only been informally recognised by AusCham.

AusCham’s Board has already had its last meeting for the year and the next meeting is not until 10 February 2015 – nine days after the aforementioned event. Accordingly, the Board informally discussed this issue off line last week and decided, as an interim solution, to give them the titles of “Representative”, effective immediately. The Board will then formally consider and resolve upon the matter on 10 February.

AusCham’s Executive Director, Phil Johns, stated that he was very pleased with the action taken by the Board. “Michael and Quentin have been doing a magnificent job of flying the flag for AusCham in Hoi An and Danang. AusCham has always been extremely grateful for their contribution but this title, at last, officially recognises the time they donate to the local business community.”

“I would also like to acknowledge the fantastic work of Ms Pham Que Anh from Hoi An Express”, added Johns. “Ms Anh and her team have also been extremely supportive of our Sundowners events in both cities.”

The “Welcome Back Aussie Alumni” event will introduce fresh Vietnamese graduates with Australian qualifications with potential employers and established alumni. In the background, reinforcing the Australian credentials of this event, the Men’s Final of the Australian Tennis Open will be screen on the TV, live from Melbourne.
