President of AusCham, Ms Chau Ta, reflects on the week the South Australian business community came to Vietnam in June 2016.

As President of AusCham and on behalf of AusCham Vietnam, it was a great honour to be supporting the South Australian Business Delegations in Hanoi and HCMC during the week commencing 30 May 2016.

In Hanoi on 1 June 2016, AusCham hosted a business breakfast for guests of honour, the South Australian Governor, His Excellency, the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO; the Premier, the Honourable Jay Weatherill; and the Australian Ambassador, His Excellency, Hugh Borrowman. The event was emceed by AusCham’s Vice President, Mr David Carter.

For all who attended, it was a great success – particularly with the Governor. His Excellency, Hieu Van Le, is the first person of Vietnamese origin to hold a Vice Regal office anywhere in the world. He was very warmly received wherever he went.

In HCMC, AusCham also hosted a business breakfast with the kind-hearted and highly respected Sir Angus Houston, South Australia’s Special Envoy for Trade; and the Honourable Martin Hamilton-Smith, South Australia’s Minister for Investment and Trade.

Many relationships were forged between the South Australian-based and Vietnam-based businesses in attendance. We have many ideas and opportunities to follow up on; many thoughts to further ponder.

But we all agreed: the relationship between Vietnam and Australia generally and South Australia specifically will continue to grow stronger.

We at AusCham are here to support and promote Australian and Vietnamese businesses developing the bilateral trade relationship between our two countries. Whether it is business from Australia to Vietnam or in the other direction, AusCham can help.

AusCham enjoys a strong relationship with Austrade and is strengthening relations with other Australian chambers of commerce in the region and back in Australia. AusCham Vietnam is ready to be by your side in your business endeavours.

These are exciting times for Vietnam and as an Australian Vietnamese, I am particularly excited to be a part of it.
