[ASEAN Football Federation website, 8 May 2015] The Australian Young Matildas have been beaten by Myanmar in the semi final of the ASEAN Football Federation’s U20 Women’s championship in HCMC.

Below is an edited extract from the AFF’s website.

Striker Naw Arlo Wer Phaw’s solitary strike in the second half was enough to put Myanmar in the final of the AFF Women’s Championship after beating the Under-20 team of Australia 1-0 in the first semi-final that was played this afternoon  at the Thong Nhat Stadium.

Wer Phaw scored the only goal of the game in the 51st minute.

“We know that the Australians were tactically stronger but I thought that our girls managed to raise the level of their game,” said Myanmar coach Thet Thet Win…

The Australian girls who had been so dominant in the group matches seemed to be a little off colour on the day even though they tried hard through the wily Alexandra Chidiac…

“I have no complaints,” said Australian coach Ante Juric afterwards. “They are still young girls and I thought that they played really well. They never give up.”

In the other semi final, Thailand beat Vietnam. Australia will play Vietnam on Sunday 10 May 2015 in HCMC for 3rd place. Thailand will play Myanmar in the Final on the same day.
