The following message has been received from Smartraveller (Australian Government) at 9.38 this morning, Sunday 15 May, 2016. All Australian citizens are being encouraged to avoid locations in HCMC where public demonstrations are expected.
We have been advised that on 15 May 2016 there will be a number of protests/demonstrations at key tourist attractions in Ho Chi Minh City, possibly including; Notre Dam Cathedral, Ben Thanh Market, Le Loi Park, Bui Vien and the People’s Committee Building on Nguyen Hue.
We advise Australians to avoid theses destinations today, 15 May 2016. Australians should not take photographs of demonstrations, the military or the police, as this may not be tolerated by the Vietnamese authorities.
