AusCham sincerely thanks NS Bluescope (AusCham Member) for opening its facilities yesterday (6 May 2015) to members of AusCham and MBA students from RMIT University (2015/16 Titanium Sponsor).

Bluscope organised the bus which picked up 19 of us in District 1, HCMC, for the trip to Phu My (near Vung Tau). We were met by Nguyen Van Phong, Vice President Coated Steel; Pham the Tran, Vice president Marketing (and an Australian Business Alumni) and Le Nguyen Quynh Nhu, Market Specialist.

The trip took 75 minutes. Once we arrived at the factory, there was a:

  • Welcome for guests
  • Safety induction
  • Production lines induction
  • Showroom visit
  • Plant tour
  • Question and Answer

BlueScope opened the metallic coating and painting facility in Phu My back in 2003. Here, they manufacture globally-renowned coated steel products such as ZINCALUME® and Clean COLORBOND®. These products are used for industrial purposes. Zacs® is used for premium residential uses.

There was an initial investment of US$105 million. The facility has a capacity for 140kt of metallic coated steel and 60kt of pre-painted steel. 230 staff are employed at the plant.

This was followed by a complimentary lunch at a nearby lunch before the bus returned us to District 1 mid afternoon.

AusCham’s Executive Director, Phil Johns thanked the Bluescope team for the generosity.

“They have been amazingly open and generous with their time and interest in our group”, said Phil.

Bluescope is a company with an incredibly strong culture. ‘Zero Harm’ is its zero tolerance policy to injuries at the work place. Whether in Australia, Thailand, Vietnam or anywhere else, Bluescope does all it can to avoid injuries. More than 1,100 days (three years) have passed since a worker missed a day’s work through injury.

The same level of commitment to being injury free is evident with the quality of its products. From design to production to installation to after sales service.

Many business and home owners who have not purchased Bluescope products, no doubt, will regret their fateful decisions when it comes time to replace them.

The exceptionally high quality of Bluescope’s products and services is no accident.
