The opportunity to taste wines from one of the most isolated regions of the world arrives at Reflections Restaurant in historic Caravelle Saigon this month when we host the Cape Mentelle Wine Dinner on October 25.

Cape Mentelle Wines was established in the beautiful Margaret River winegrowing region in the far southwest corner of Australia near Perth almost 50 years ago. The occasion will provide a rare opportunity for just 40 guests to taste an Australian wine that has been described by the Australian Wine Annual as both “elegant and layered.”

For VND 1,980,00nett, guests will be treated to a pairing menu created by our Executive Chef Darren Watson and his team, that is set to make this wine dinner a highlight of the year at Caravelle Saigon.

Served either side of Cape Mentelle’s fruity Sauvignon Blanc Semillon with its crisp, citrusy characters, will be canapes of kombu-cured smoked salmon with nori seaweed and horseradish tartlet, crispy Dover sole marinated in chermoula with a roasted red pepper hollandaise sauce, and a colourful goat’s cheese parfait encased in a pomegranate jelly and puree with roasted baby beetroot, Greek yoghurt gel and sourdough toast.

Cape Mentelle’s fragrant and bold Shiraz follows, paired with a red sea bream with cauliflower puree and smoked clams drizzled in a slow-cooked oxtail and chicken merlot jus.

After which roast duck breast with ginger calamansi puree and seasoned with a Cambodian fermented salted pepper from Kampot, comes to the table with Cape Mentelle’s Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that is best described as complex and intense, yet elegant and balanced.

The purple hues and bright crimson colours continue to flow over into dessert with a black cherry mousse and dark chocolate cremeux and dark chocolate sea salt tuile with cherry and thyme ice-cream.

This Cape Mentelle Wine Dinner at Reflections Restaurant in the heart of the city will bring together the best of the old world and the new on an occasion that will be talked about for a long time to come.
