Within the Clipper 15-16 Round the World Yacht Race, on the occasion of the arrival of the Clipper fleet in Sydney, Australia, on 18th Dec 2015, Da Nang City in collaboration with the Embassy of Viet Nam in Australia organised the Tourism Promotion Workshop: “Da Nang – New Discovery of Asia” at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Sydney. Attending the Workshop were H.E.Mr. Luong Thanh Nghi, Ambassador of Viet Nam to Australia, Mr. Hoang Minh Son, Consul General of Viet Nam to Sydney, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Founder and Chairman of the Clipper Race, Mrs. Wendy Tuck, Skipper of team Da Nang – Viet Nam together with 70 guests who are travel agents and tourism businesses and organisations from Australia and crew members of team Da Nang – Viet Nam.

Ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi expressed his high appreciation to the efforts of Da Nang and the Clipper Race in promoting the city to the world, and shared that Da Nang is his favourite holiday destination and also his family’s. Even though Da Nang has become a popular destination for Australian tourists, still a lot of Australian people have not heard of this attraction; therefore the visit of the Da Nang – Viet Nam boat to Sydney and such a workshop are very important. As the Ambassador of Viet Nam to Australia, he wanted to see greater exchanges of information between the two countries, and create greater opportunities for businesses of the two sides. He also wanted more Vietnamese people to visit the gorgeous land of Australia, and more Aussies to visit the charming Viet Nam. He encouraged all businesses and organisations of the tourism industry to make use of the strong relations between Viet Nam and Australia to promote tourism between the two sides.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston introduced some information about the Clipper Race and opportunities it can bring to stopovers. He expressed his thankfulness towards Da Nang City and shared that all crewmembers and himself are very looking forward to visiting Da Nang in Feb 2016.

At the Workshop, a Da Nang representative made a presentation on Da Nang tourism, its favourable conditions and potential, as well as its tourism products that are appealing to Australian tourists in specific and foreign tourists in general. Representatives of tourism businesses from Da Nang and Central Viet Nam also introduced their operations and products to the delegates. The Workshop provided a lot of useful and various information, and was highly appreciated by guests and media. The guests also highly supported Da Nang City’s decision on participating in the Clipper Race for showcasing it worldwide.

After the Workshop, Ambassador Le Thanh Nghi, the delegation of Da Nang City and guests also took a visit to the Da Nang – Viet Nam yacht.
