To the Community of Ho Chi Minh City,
I have been aware for some time that the emergency response services available in Ho Chi Minh City lag far behind international norms. Delays in ambulance dispatch and lack of medical instruction given to emergency callers have cost lives. In view of this, we have decided to upgrade our entire emergency response framework to the globally-recognized ProQA system, to provide an affordable and professional subscription service to our community – which callers can access by dialing the emergency number *9999 (star nine nine nine nine).
Our new EMR *9999 system is staffed by professionals with the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) certification, a leading standards-setter in global first-responder research and protocols. We can now react to emergencies faster with lifesaving advice by phone and direct professional medical attention en route. Our fleet of ambulances are mobile ICUs capable of sustaining life for up to 72 hours in the vehicles. The upgrade represents a significant advance in Family Medical Practice’s services – a sign of just how far we’ve come in recent years.
Rather than charging astronomical rates for this elite service, we have settled on a subscription model costing just VND575,000/person/year for unlimited access to our full emergency response services at no extra charge. This allows us to maintain a hi-tech framework that delivers a proven 25% mortality reduction without putting daunting financial burdens on patients. Charging this subscription fee allows us to recover the enormous but necessary investment we have made in this technology in a fair and affordable manner.
Following eight months of intensive training and trials, we are now making this service available 24/7 in both English and Vietnamese to subscribers only – initially within Districts 1, 3, and certain areas of Districts 2 and Binh Thanh. The entire metropolitan area of Ho Chi Minh City will be covered as soon as possible.
One doesn’t have to be registered with Family Medical Practice to use this service – but you must subscribe to EMR *9999, even if you already have medical cover. Non-subscribers will not be entitled to access the service and will not have priority use of ambulances. In the event of an emergency, our ambulances will deliver patients to whichever medical institution is best able to treat them, based on proximity and facilities at hand. The priority of the EMR *9999 service is to better protect our community and save lives.
