Below, AusCham’s new President, Matthew Lourey, reaches out to members in a message dated 4 April 2018.
Dear Members & Friends,
It is my honour and privilege to be appointed as President of AusCham for the coming year, and I expect the role to be extremely challenging yet rewarding. Our members are the foundation of our Chamber, and providing a platform to support and enhance their business interests in Vietnam and the greater Australian/Vietnam business community is something that I am passionate about and look forward to supporting.
I would like to congratulate the other Board members for their appointment for the next year, and look forward to working with an enthusiastic and driven Board. The Board comprises 12 directors; 8 in HCMC and 4 in Hanoi, and is representative of the Australian business community at large in Vietnam, the members of which have a very diverse background and bring substantial experience and acumen to the table. Together with our Vice President, Phillip Dowler; Treasurer, Cecilia Trandang; and Secretary, Minh Duong, we will look to lead this dedicated group.
It is appropriate to acknowledge and give thanks at this time to two major changes within the Chamber. Ms Chau Ta’s leadership over the past 2 years as President of AusCham has been profound, and her guidance and promotion of the Chamber has been something that she should be extremely proud of. We thank Chau for her tireless efforts, and the good news is that Chau is staying on the board as an active board member of AusCham. Secondly, AusCham’s Executive Director, Mr Phil Johns, completes his employment with AusCham this week after four years, as he sets off to embark on a new career. Phil has looked after the Chamber as its most senior employee, and everyone who has interacted with Phil will agree on the commitment and passion he has shown in everything he has done, and we will all miss the knowledge and connections that he fosters every day in his role. Details of the replacement Executive Director will be provided in due course.
If anyone has any feedback or suggestions on how we can assist our members better during the year, as we are always looking to encourage interaction with our members, you can send to email@example.com or to me directly, and we will acknowledge and act accordingly.
This week (Thursday) is also our regular monthly Sundowners event for members to meet and network, held in both Hanoi (venue: Koto Restaurant) and Ho Chi Minh City (venue: Sofitel Plaza). This is a great chance for members to interact with the Board members who will be attending the events – and as I will be attending Hanoi Sundowners, I look forward to seeing everyone there together with our Vice President.
