Last Friday, 11 December 2015, saw the launch of a new Water Ambulance by Heart Reach Australia (AusCham Member) in the Mekong Delta.
Below, HRA’s Director, Chris O’Dempsey explains more.
Great event and had half the officials from all departments in Ben Tre and Tanh Hai pushing the boat into the water so we could give it a maiden run into it’s moorings.
They built the concrete pathway 250 metres from the road, and a secure roofed area (still to have enclosed mesh and steps) in preparation. Quite an amazing afternoon. There was an hour of handover speeches, flowers etc but the greatest moment was, after nearly three years of fundraising, when the boat HIT THE WATER!
Tight space… hard to manoeuvre in slow speed and with a current.. but the key turned, motor started, and the future of the first Ambulance Boat in Vietnam had started also!!
Support by many people… and especially the HOGS Saigon, Harley-Davidson of Saigon, and New World Saigon.
With ongoing support and added sponsors, this program can have vast reaching impact on the health and life saving capacity of medical personnel in Vietnam.
Thank you everyone who DID contribute. You are part of history!
