AusCham confirms that nominations for the 2017/18 Board have now closed, as per previous advice that listed the deadline as 3pm, Monday 20 March 2017.

Under AusCham’s Charter:

  • In Hanoi, there are 4 vacancies at the AGM – and 4 nominations were received.
  • In HCMC, there are 8 vacancies at the AGM – and 8 nominations were received.

With the number of candidates in each city matching the number of vacancies, an election will NOT be required..

The AGM will still be held in Hanoi and HCMC at 6pm on Tuesday 28 March 2017, as per previous advice. Click here for full details. Members are encouraged to attend.

It is expected that the Board will be able to announce office bearers at the end of the AGM.

1. Mr Brian O’Reilly: Managing Director – SEA Management Consulting Company (Current AusCham Director (HCMC))

Brian has been a member of AusCham for over 16 years and a Board member for over 8 years. He past roles in AusCham include President, Chair/Vice-Chair of the HCMC Chapter, Chair of AusCham’s Advocacy Committee representing AusCham at the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF). He is the Co-Chair the VBF Education and Training Working Group and a founding member and Chair of the International Project Management Association Vietnam (IPMAV). Brian will continue to work to help AusCham achieve its goals in serving the interests of all AusCham members across Vietnam.

2. Ms Cecilia Tran Dang, Head of Business Banking, ANZ Vietnam (Current AusCham Director (HCMC))

Cecilia started her Banking career over two decades ago. Prior to moving to Asia, she worked closely with the Vietnamese Business Community in Victoria. Her strength in promoting and showcasing Vietnam to FDI investors creates opportunities for members to connect.  Cecilia is also an active facilitator for the Money Minded Community program and has been working and living in Vietnam since 2010. She is passionate and committed to be the conduit to help close the gaps for members both here in Vietnam and abroad. She is a Monash University Alumna, holds an MBA and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning.

3. Ms Chau Ta: Legal Counsel Transactions, SC Capital (Current AusCham President (HCMC))

I am a Vietnamese born Australian lawyer specializing in real estate investments/transactions, living and working in Vietnam for 10 years. I have served on the board of Auscham for the past 4 years, and as Auscham’s President in 2016. Together with our dynamic and enthusiastic board, I am committed and dedicated to promoting and facilitating Australian and Vietnamese businesses, bridging gaps both in the differences in culture as well as the legal vs practical gaps via consultation, representations as well as organizing informative events such as the Real Estate Symposium to bring value to our members.

4. Mr Greg Ohan: Director, JLL (Jones Lang Lang Lasalle) (Current AusCham Director (HCMC))

An AusCham member for 6 years and active board member for 3, I have worked in real estate in Australia, Hong Kong and the last 6 years in Vietnam which has allowed me to understand the complexities businesses face when entering / operating in Vietnam – whilst also understanding the role required by AusCham to support its members.

Traveling to Hanoi regularly also gives me an understanding of the “national” issues. I regularly work on the challenging committees; volunteering for community, government events and also creating successful AusCham events such as the recent ‘Industrial Investment’ seminar adding value to members.

5. Mr David Carter: CEO, Aon Vietnam (Current AusCham Vice President (Hanoi))

Aon is Vietnam’s largest professional insurance broker and risk advisor. I have lived in the Mekong region for 8 years with the latest 3 years being in Hanoi. I am a past President of AusCham Cambodia. I have served on the AusCham Vietnam board as Vice President and I seek reelection so that I can continue to contribute to the Chamber’s vision, values and cause. I am a firm believer in the purpose of AusCham bringing true value to members through support services and business events as well as advocacy work with host governments and the Australian Embassy.

6. Mr Giles Cooper: Partner, Duane Morris Vietnam (Current AusCham Director (Hanoi))

I have been an AusCham director for eight years focusing on legal advocacy in areas including labor and work permit laws, enterprise law reform, mining services and market access. I bring with me 17 years’ experience working as a lawyer in Vietnam helping foreign investors do business in this increasingly complex business environment. I am AusCham’s representative on the board of the Vietnam Business Forum, an important avenue for AusCham members to participate in law and policy making in Vietnam.  I am also co-chair of the VBF’s Governance and Integrity working group.

7. Mr Matthew Lourey: Managing Partner, Domicile Corporate Services (Current AusCham Treasurer (HCMC))

I am an Australian Chartered Accountant who has lived and worked in Vietnam for over 12 years. As Managing Partner of Domicile Corporate Services, I assist foreign invested companies enter Vietnam and ensure that their ongoing accounting, tax, reporting and compliance are maintained at international levels. I enjoy fostering our Australian relationships in Vietnam, and being part of the AusCham board allows me to give back and assist the wider Australian business community in Vietnam and Australia.

8. Minh Duong: Partner, Asia Counsel Vietnam Law Company (Current AusCham Secretary (HCMC))

Minh is a lawyer admitted to the NSW Supreme Court and High Court of Australia and has over nine years of experience advising multinationals and foreign investors with their investments in Vietnam.As an AUSCHAM board member, Minh will work to make investment and business conditions more business friendly for members and investors generally.

9. Mr Phillip Dowler OAM, CPA: Head of Campus – Hanoi, RMIT University (Current AusCham Director (Hanoi))

Phillip Dowler is the Head of Campus Hanoi for RMIT University Vietnam.   Phillip has resided in Vietnam for the last four years, having been fortunate enough to have lived in both HCMC and Hanoi. Phillip has  spent two years on the AUSCHAM board and  is also the President of the  Northern Vietnam Advisory board of CPA Australia, and a member of the Education Working Group of the Vietnam Business Forum.

10. Mr Robert King: Tax Partner / Tax Leader Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, EY Vietnam (HCMC)

I am Robert King. I am admitted to the NSW Supreme Court and High Court of Australia and hold a WA legal practicing certificate. I am also a chartered accountant and an Associate of CA ANZ. I am a partner at EY and lead the tax practice in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Prior to that I was a corporate tax partner in EY Sydney, Perth and Croatia. I have lived in Vietnam with my family since July 2015. I hope to join the AusCham board to work hard and bring my experience to the benefit of all stakeholders.

11. Shane O’Connor: General Director, Commonwealth Bank Vietnam

I am General Director of Commonwealth Bank in Vietnam, a position I took up in February 2016. Commonwealth Bank has had a presence in Vietnam since 1994 and is also a strategic shareholder of a local Bank, Vietnam International Bank (VIB).

I have over 20 years banking experience and have held senior executive roles both in Australia and overseas. Prior to taking up my role in Vietnam, I was responsible for driving the productivity agenda across CBA Group subsidiaries in New Zealand and Asia.

I have undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Economics and enjoy travel, cycling and snowboarding.

12. Ms Tori Dixon-Whittle: Managing Director, TDWCo (current AusCham Director (Hanoi))

I’m an Australian business woman living in Hanoi for 6 years. As Managing Director of TDWCo, I specialize in leadership, creativity and innovation. I’m an active member of AusCham, running workshops for members on Productivity and Self-Leadership prior to joining the board in October.

Recently I launched the “Meet the Members – Success Stories” monthly initiative enabling AusCham members to learn from each other and gain “behind-the-scenes” insights into successful member organisations. I am passionate about working with our talented directors to deliver benefits to our members – facilitating connections between businesses, and with government, enabling Australian and Vietnamese businesses to thrive.
