Topic Summary:

Laos can be a small but lucrative extension to the Vietnamese market. Rapidly growing and rich in resources, a number of Australian companies are well established in Laos. With 70 company members, Austcham Lao is keen to develop links with neighbouring markets and support new entrants into the country. With daily flights between Vientiane and major Vietnamese cities, the Lao market is relatively easy to access.

AusCham members are invited to attend a special presentation on the Lao PDR immediately before the 3 September AusCham Sundowners at the Intercontinental Asiana Saigon.  Australia’s Ambassador to Laos, John Williams, and AustCham Lao President, Richard Taylor, will provide a briefing on the Lao political-economy, and how the Chamber can help Australian companies grow in Laos.

Guest Speakers:

1 John Williams, Australian Ambassador to the Lao PDR – John has over 20 years’ experience in South-East Asia, including diplomatic postings in Thailand and Indonesia, and stints as a development and business consultant, based in Bangkok and Jakarta.
2 Richard Taylor, General Manager External Affairs and Site Support, Phu Bia Mining (PanAust) – Richard is a qualified lawyer and former Australian diplomat with more than 14 years’ experience in government and stakeholder relations, primarily in the mining industry. He worked previously with the World Bank and Oxiana/MMG, and consulted to governments and companies active throughout the Asian region, including in India, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
