Two sign MoU on conducting activities aimed at ensuring employability of graduates.
RMIT Vietnam and two hotels – Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake and Intercontinental Hanoi Landmark 72 – under the five-star hotel chain the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG), recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at RMIT’s Hanoi campus.
RMIT Vietnam and IHG will enhance cooperation in a wide range of activities, including a management trainee program, guest lecturers, academic research, internships and employment, study tours, career expos, and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) projects.
Ms. Ngo Thi Linh Trang, Area Learning & Development Manager Vietnam at Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake, said that most RMIT graduates working for IHG have outstanding qualifications.
“RMIT graduates know their jobs and fit in with the team so well, not to mention being quite dynamic,” she said. “Thanks to their good command of English, they also possess excellent communication skills, which is crucial in a hotel working environment. IHG and RMIT Vietnam have cooperated for a while, and this MoU aims to make the strategic relationship official.”
“We see strong growth in tourism and hospitality management,” said Mr. Robbert Manussen, Hotel Manager at Intercontinental Hanoi Landmark72. “We definitely need more qualified human resources to join our team. This cooperation with RMIT is a part of our development strategy.”
Associate Professor Robert McClelland, Head of Department (Management) at RMIT Vietnam’s School of Business & Management, said the MoU will strengthen the relationship between RMIT and leading employers in the market. “RMIT Vietnam students will have more opportunities to intern and later work for these hotels,” he said. “This also boosts authentic assessment, one of RMIT’s priorities and which aims to increase the employability of students after graduation.”
According to the MoU, the number of RMIT Vietnam students who intern at Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake and Intercontinental Hanoi Landmark 72 will go up and the quality of the internships will also be enhanced thanks to the standardization of performance appraisal.
