Congratulations to Van Viet Duc who has just won a full scholarship from Swinburne University Of Technology (an AusCham Member) on the hit TV show, Way to Olympia Peak 2015.

Australian Deputy Ambassador Layton Pike presented the new champion from Quang Tri Town High School with his prize – a full undergraduate scholarship, valued at $147,000 from Swinburne University.

Swinburne also sponsored a 50 per cent fee waiver for the first runner-up, Huynh Anh Nhat Truong.

Way to Olympia Peak, a ratings bonanza

Way to Olympia Peak was first introduced in Vietnam in 1999 and is now the oldest and most watched show on Vietnamese national television, according to its Facebook page.It has a viewing audience of 20 million!

The show is a knowledge test designed to discover the brightest high school students in Vietnam.

The young contestants have to demonstrate their knowledge in Vietnamese literature, Vietnamese and world history, sciences, English, mathematics, and general knowledge under the pressure of its huge audience.

The game show has “brought tears, elation, excitement, but most importantly it brought immeasurable opportunity to Vietnam’s young talents”.

Congratulations again to Van Viet Duc – and to Swinburne University of Technology for offering such an amazing prize.
