MEMBERS of the Vietnamese community helped raise more than $25,000 for bushfire victims at a concert in Girrawheen (Perth, Western Australia) last week.
About 700 people attended the event at Girrawheen Senior High School and raised $27,700 for the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund.
Organised by the Vietnamese Senior Association and the Vietnamese Community in Australia – WA chapter, the fund will go to people affected by the Yarloop and Waroona bushfires in January.
There were dance and musical performances, with presentations by City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts, Cowan MP Luke Simpkins, Girrawheen MLA Margaret Quirk and Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles.
Mr Miles said it was a great initiative by the groups.
“It is an amazing response by the Vietnamese community,” he said.
*** AusCham would also like to join others in acknowledging and congratulating the Vietnamese Community in Western Australia for its generous response to a terrible tragedy.
