Fresh Plaza, 23 June 2015. Vietnamese delegation visits Northern Rivers.
An edited extract of the original article appears below.
A high-level delegation from Vietnam will visit the Northern Rivers (a region of New South Wales, located between Sydney and Brisbane) tomorrow, where they will meet with representatives from the Australian Macadamia Society (AMS) and tour local processing facilities and macadamia farms.
The delegation of 15 people will include mainly representatives from a commercial bank planning to invest in the macadamia industry in Vietnam (LienVietPost Bank) as well as representatives from the Vietnamese government, media outlets, and research agencies. They have travelled to Australia – which leads the world in macadamia production – to learn more about the Australian industry, and will meet with AMS CEO Jolyon Burnett tomorrow morning.
The Vietnamese macadamia industry is still in its infancy (established only in the last decade) and has strong government support. The government has identified macadamias as a potentially profitable new agricultural crop and there are plans for massive expansion in the coming years…
The Northern Rivers is the largest producing macadamia region in Australia, accounting for approximately half of our nation’s macadamia crop.
