Dear Members and Friends,
Yesterday, we received some encouraging news from the VBF, of which AusCham is a member, that the Government has confirmed that work permit will be issued to foreign employees who have either 5 years experience or an equivalent degree. For full details, click here.
Tomorrow is the second Friday of the month which means Sundowners in Danang / Hoi An. If you’re travelling to the central region this weekend, consider dropping in for Sundowners which will be at the Pullman Danang Beach Resort from 6.30pm. The level of awareness re our monthly Sundowners is being heightened with a number of new people saying they wish to attend. As a National Chamber, we are keen to keep promoting this function which is expected to lead towards business seminars and other events.
Yesterday we announced that this year, for the first time, AusCham will host a Melbourne Cup Ball – on Saturday 1 November (Derby Day) in HCMC during the day.  So, in the Year of the Horse it will be Melbourne Cup on Derby Day! Importantly, it’s modelled from an iconic Australian event that weaves horse racing, business, fashion, culture, people and fun together. AusCham is confident that this Australian event will draw increasing interest, especially from our Vietnamese hosts who have previously studied in Australia or at a local Australian institution. Their engagement makes our business chamber more relevant.
In Hanoi and HCMC, AusCham has been approached by two industrial parks wanting to meet with us. Rather than just presenting to AusCham’s staff in both offices, we will open our meetings to any member who would like to attend. The meetings shall be held in our Hanoi and HCMC offices on Friday 25 July at 9am. For further information, please contact us. We are not sure how much interest there will be. This is an example of your Chamber trying to create opportunities for members to take or leave as appropriate.
On an administrative matter, when attending our AusCham events, could you please show your Membership Card to claim your discount. The Membership Card greatly assists our staff at the door processing payments and, with the card doubling as a name card, also helps members know each other.
Don’t forget the AusCham Scramble in HCMC on Friday 10 October. It’s Fore(!) Business People. We are also planning to host our inaugural Scramble in Hanoi later this year. (Oh, and don’t forget our Real Estate Symposiums and Fireside Chats in Hanoi and HCMC later in the year…)
Finally, for charities that are members of AusCham that wish to apply for funding raised from funds raised at the Golf Scramble and Melbourne Cup Ball (from live and silent auctions), then please download an application form by  clicking here.
Shouold you wish to register your interest in sponsoring, playing, attending, helping with any of our events, or just want to offer a suggestion, please contact me.
It’s your Chamber. Get involved.
