AusCham Joins Workshop on IP Commercialization and Economic Growth
Hanoi, 3 October 2025 – AusCham Vietnam, represented by Ms Huong Tran, Head of Advocacy & Partnerships, attended the high-level workshop “Legal and Policy Framework for the Commercialization of Intellectual Property – A New Driver of Economic Growth” held in Hanoi.
The event was co-organized by the Central Policy and Strategy Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology, gathering policymakers, experts, researchers, and representatives from international organizations and business associations. The workshop aimed to review Vietnam’s current legal and policy frameworks for intellectual property (IP) and discuss solutions to promote innovation-driven and knowledge-based economic growth.
Key Discussions
Participants exchanged insights on several key topics, including:
Updating the legal framework to align with global trends in IP commercialization;
Addressing challenges in IP valuation, taxation, and financial incentives;
Developing market infrastructure such as IP exchanges, technology funds, and pilot mechanisms to facilitate IP-based transactions;
Strengthening coordination among government agencies, universities, enterprises, and financial institutions to build a supportive ecosystem for IP commercialization.
Speakers highlighted that while Vietnam has made significant progress in IP protection, further reforms are needed to enable effective commercialization and monetization of intellectual property. A shift in perception—from IP as a legal right to IP as a tradable and valuable business asset—was seen as a key step toward fostering innovation-led economic growth.
Looking Ahead
The workshop forms part of Vietnam’s broader efforts to implement Resolution 57-NQ/TW on promoting science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as new growth drivers. Moving forward, continued engagement between policymakers, research institutions, and the business community will be essential to ensure that Vietnam’s IP ecosystem becomes a strong enabler for sustainable and inclusive development.
AusCham will continue to follow these policy developments closely and engage in dialogue to support Vietnam’s innovation and technology ambitions.
