AusCham Participates in ASEAN Future Forum 2025 Business Roundtable

Hanoi, Vietnam – On February 26, 2025, David Whitehead, representing the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AusCham), attended the Business Roundtable, a key session within the ASEAN Future Forum 2025. The forum, themed "Building a United, Inclusive, and Resilient ASEAN amidst Global Transformation," brought together policymakers, business leaders, and experts to discuss strategies for strengthening regional cooperation and resilience in an ever-changing global landscape.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính’s Key Address

Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính delivered a pivotal address at the forum, emphasizing the need to reinforce ASEAN’s unity and strategic autonomy. He outlined three strategic priorities for the bloc:

  1. Enhancing strategic self-control to adapt to global uncertainties.
  2. Building economic resilience through innovation and digital transformation.
  3. Preserving ASEAN's core values and identity amidst growing external pressures.

To realize these priorities, the Prime Minister proposed three breakthrough actions:

  • Developing a more flexible and accountable decision-making mechanism within ASEAN.
  • Strengthening public-private partnerships to mobilize resources for regional development.
  • Deepening ASEAN connectivity by focusing on infrastructure and institutional harmonization.

Insights from Other Vietnamese Leaders

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn also highlighted the forum's importance as an open and inclusive platform designed "by ASEAN, for ASEAN." He emphasized the need for critical thinking and strategic dialogue to address the challenges of globalization and enhance ASEAN’s resilience.
