AusCham Representatives Attend An Giang Province Planning Announcement and Investment Promotion Conference
An Giang, 17 May, 2026 - Representatives of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, including Mr. Edwin Law – Executive Director, Mr. Rodney Stone and Mr. Ryan Nguyễn – Member of the Board of Directors, attended the An Giang Province Planning Announcement and Investment Promotion Conference.

Organised under the theme “An Giang – New Space, New Vision, New Success”, the conference marked a major milestone in the province’s development journey as An Giang officially announced its adjusted provincial planning for the 2021–2030 period, with a long-term vision toward 2050. The event also served as a platform to introduce strategic investment opportunities and reinforce An Giang’s ambition to become a new growth pole of the Mekong Delta region.
The conference brought together approximately 500 delegates, including senior Party and Government leaders, representatives from ministries and central agencies, international organisations, business associations, domestic and foreign investors, and leading economic groups.
High-level attendees included former Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng; former Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính; former Standing Member of the Party Secretariat Lê Hồng Anh; Politburo Member and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc; Politburo Member and Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission Nguyễn Thanh Nghị; Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân; and Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Đặng Xuân Phong, alongside leaders from across the Mekong Delta region and strategic investment partners.

According to the newly announced planning, An Giang is envisioned as a strategic marine economic centre, a regional logistics and connectivity hub, and a sustainable tourism destination of the Mekong Delta. Following the merger of the former An Giang and Kien Giang provinces, the newly expanded province now possesses the largest natural area in the Mekong Delta, spanning nearly 10,000 square kilometres, with more than 150 islands, a 150-kilometre border, and a population exceeding five million people.
The planning outlines a comprehensive development strategy centred on regional connectivity, marine economy, logistics, tourism, renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, and sustainable urban development. Key development corridors and growth poles include Phu Quoc Special Zone, Tho Chau, the Chau Doc – Tinh Bien – Ha Tien corridor, and the Rach Gia – Long Xuyen – Chau Doc axis.
The province has also set ambitious economic targets for the next development phase, aiming for annual GRDP growth of approximately 11–11.2% during 2026–2030, while positioning itself as a leading investment destination in southern Vietnam.
One of the major highlights of the conference was the announcement of large-scale investment commitments and project approvals. Provincial authorities granted investment approvals and strategic cooperation agreements for dozens of projects across infrastructure, tourism, renewable energy, urban development, logistics, trade, processing industries, and high-tech agriculture, with total committed and proposed capital amounting to hundreds of trillions of Vietnamese dong.
Delivering keynote directives at the conference, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc emphasised that An Giang’s planning announcement represented not only an important milestone for the province itself, but also a significant development event for the broader Mekong Delta region.
He stressed that An Giang’s future development must be based on strong regional connectivity, alignment with national master planning, sustainable growth principles, and harmony between economic development, environmental protection, national defence, and social welfare. The Standing Deputy Prime Minister also called on the province to accelerate administrative reform, rapidly implement infrastructure projects, prioritise green and digital transformation, and establish new growth drivers in sectors such as marine economy, renewable energy, logistics, tourism, digital economy, and artificial intelligence.
Importantly, Mr. Edwin Law, Executive Director of AusCham Vietnam, was honoured to be the only representative from the foreign business community invited to deliver remarks at the conference.

Representing the Australian business community in Vietnam, Mr. Law shared perspectives on the growing opportunities for cooperation between Australia and Vietnam, particularly within An Giang Province and the broader Mekong Delta region.
In his address, Mr. Law highlighted An Giang’s strong strategic advantages, including its agricultural foundation, regional connectivity, cross-border trade potential, renewable energy opportunities, and rich tourism and cultural assets. He noted that Australian businesses are increasingly seeking investment opportunities aligned with sustainable development, particularly in agriculture and agri-tech, food processing, renewable energy, logistics, education, workforce development, and green infrastructure.
Mr. Law also emphasised that international investors today are prioritising policy consistency, implementation capability, transparency, sustainability commitments, and administrative efficiency. He noted that ESG alignment, traceability systems, carbon reduction initiatives, and sustainable supply chains are becoming central to global investment decisions and export competitiveness.
The speech further identified several promising areas for Australia–An Giang cooperation, including smart agriculture, agricultural digitalisation, cold-chain logistics, food processing, vocational education, renewable energy, and sustainable tourism development.
Drawing on Australia’s extensive expertise in agri-tech, irrigation systems, workforce development, and sustainable infrastructure, Mr. Law expressed confidence that An Giang is well positioned to become a leading centre for sustainable agriculture and agri-innovation within the Mekong Delta.
He also shared recommendations from the Australian business community, encouraging the province to continue strengthening investor support mechanisms, streamline administrative procedures, develop investment-ready projects, enhance ESG alignment, and maintain regular engagement with foreign investors and international business associations.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Law reaffirmed AusCham Vietnam’s commitment to facilitating business connections and supporting practical cooperation opportunities between Australian businesses and An Giang Province in the years ahead.
The conference reflected An Giang Province’s strong ambition to position itself as a competitive, sustainable, and internationally connected investment destination, while reinforcing its role as a future growth engine of the Mekong Delta and Vietnam’s evolving economic landscape.
