[RECAP] Meeting with MOIT Vice Minister H.E. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long

On the afternoon of Friday, August 2nd, AusCham Director Mr. David Whitehead, representing AusCham and the Vietnam Business Forum Consortium delegation, met with newly-appointed MOIT Vice Minister H.E. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long for a courtesy meeting.

Mr. Whitehead extended congratulations on behalf of VBF and AusCham for the Vice Minister's new role. The discussion highlighted the appreciation for the Government's Decree 80/2024/ND-CP, which establishes the direct power purchase agreement (DPPA) mechanism, fostering a legal framework for renewable energy and attracting foreign investors to Vietnam. Key topics included the implementation of Decree 80, the RTS Decree, revised Electricity Law, Offshore Wind Pilot Project Mechanism, and LNG-related issues.

During the meeting, AusCham also emphasized Australia's recognition of Vietnam's clean energy efforts, with interest from Australian businesses in offshore wind projects. Collaboration between Australian investors and Vietnamese corporations like Corio Generation and EVNGENCO 3 showcases growth potential in the sector. The partnership between Vietnam and Australia in renewable energy aligns with the Just Energy Transition Partnership goals, emphasizing the importance of supportive policies to attract investors and drive advancements in the power and energy sector.
