AusCham co-host EuroCham: Vietnam Renewable Energy Conference: Challenges and Practical Solutions

In 2017, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam (MOIT) issued a regulation that meant to encourage the development of solar power projects in Vietnam. Circular No. 16/2017/TT-BCT established the final template for the Power Purchase Agreement ("PPA") and an FiT rate of USD9.35 cents per kWh.

Since then, an average of 9 power generation and distribution projects were registered per month, showing the strong interest of foreign and local investors in a new renewable energy market context in Vietnam, expected to grow as much as 23% per year until 2030. However, out of the 24 GW of renewable energy capacity registered in the database, only 19% made it to construction stage and 8% to operations, with most projects currently still in preparation stages. Lack of comprehensive information is the first challenge for investors and developers to explore renewable energy opportunities. Although information about renewable energy projects in Vietnam is a constant presence, the lack of available elements as to the number of projects, development status, and other, is creating a degree of confusion and uncertainty among investors, developers, and other stakeholders. In this context, the Vietnam Renewable Energy Conference: "Challenges and Practical Solutions" will discuss the present and the future of renewable energy in Vietnam, providing a platform for insight sharing on the current market landscape and project implementation. It will touch upon key issues related to the topic, particularly from the perspectives of project development, financing, M&A and equity investments. The event is co-organised by Stoxplus, a leading market research and business information company in Vietnam with strong experience in supporting the implementation of renewable energy projects in the country. The Conference will be dedicated to the following topics:1. Licensed Projects and Implementation 2. Key Issues in Renewable Energy Projects:Licensing issues
  • Financing issues
  • Pre-operation issues
  • PPA terms and issues
  • Technology selection and investment cost3. Key Risks to Financing Firms in Renewable Energy Projects

4. M&A and Foreign Participation in Renewable Energy Projects
