Australian current laws make it very clear that foreigners are only allowed to buy properties in a new development project (i.e., directly from the developer).
- For commercial investment (for business trading purposes, such as: supermarkets, restaurants, …) investors are required to pay registration fee (about4-6% of the property’s value) as Australian citizens.
- For residential investment (for residential purposes: for dwelling or recreational purposes, or both) investors are required to pay residential tax(about 12% of the property’s value), includingregistration tax (about 4-6% of the property’s value) and registration extra charges (about 8% of the property’s value).
