AusCham President Featured in Vietnam Economic Times on Australia–Vietnam Trade and Investment

August 10, 2026

AusCham Vietnam President Mr Sam Conroy has been featured in the 10 August 2026 edition of Vietnam Economic Times, sharing Australian businesses’ perspectives on the outlook for trade and investment between Australia and Vietnam.

The interview, titled “Strategic Considerations,” forms part of a special report published alongside the State visit to Australia and New Zealand by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.

Mr Conroy highlighted the strong momentum created by the elevation of Australia–Vietnam relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024. Two-way trade in goods and services reached A$30 billion in 2025, demonstrating the complementary strengths of the two economies. However, with two-way investment totalling approximately A$2 billion during the same period, considerable potential remains to expand investment in both directions.

“The next stage should therefore focus on converting positive sentiment and commercial enquiries into long-term, high-quality projects,” Mr Conroy said.

The interview identified significant opportunities for deeper business cooperation in clean energy and the energy transition, agriculture and food processing, education and skills development, digital transformation, infrastructure, logistics, advanced manufacturing, technology and professional services.

Mr Conroy also outlined the factors Australian businesses consider when assessing investment opportunities in Vietnam. These include regulatory certainty, consistent implementation across government authorities, efficient administrative procedures, access to skilled employees, reliable infrastructure, intellectual property protection, tax and customs arrangements, and environmental, social and governance requirements.

While Australian businesses recognise Vietnam’s strong economic growth, dynamic workforce, expanding domestic market and position within regional supply chains, Mr Conroy noted that regulatory clarity and consistency remain essential to strengthening investor confidence.

Looking ahead, Vietnam has an opportunity to become a higher-value link in Australian and global supply chains by strengthening connections between foreign-invested enterprises and local suppliers, developing advanced workforce capabilities, encouraging research and development, and expanding access to reliable low-carbon energy.

AusCham remains committed to supporting constructive dialogue between government and the business community, helping Australian companies navigate the Vietnamese market and promoting sustainable, mutually beneficial trade and investment between the two countries.
