The Vietnamese Government has been actively streamlining regulations on the management of foreigners in Vietnam. Relatedly, the National Assembly adopted Law No. 23/2023/QH15 amending certain articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of foreigners in Vietnam (the “Amended Law”) on 24 June 2023, which took effect from 15 August 2023. The Amended Law has implemented significant changes to visa durations and e-visas.

Another notable development relevant to foreigners in Vietnam is that the Government is in the process of amending Decree No. 152/2020/ND-CP on work permits for foreigners working in Vietnam, which may be issued soon. The potential changes under this amended decree may impact various aspects of foreigner work permits, including the foreign labor demand report and approval process; conditions on work permits for executive directors, experts and technicians; the allocation of authority between the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and local Departments of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs in respect to granting work permits; as well as various other areas.
