Vietnam: Authorities continue to enforce COVID-19 and update the restrictions nationwide as of 25 June 2021.
Vietnam continues to enact COVID-19 rules nationwide with requests to follow the restrictions strictly from Heads of all Departments, Agencies, Units, Chairperson of the People’s Committee City and other districts to immediately implement the following updates: Hanoi authorities allowed indoor dining, drinking venues, and barbershops to reopen from June 22 after almost a month of closures. However, business establishments will have to abide by several restrictions such as 50 percent capacity and no more than 20 customers at a venue at a time.
1. No discrimination between Vietnamese and foreigners during vaccination There is no discrimination between Vietnamese and foreigners during the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, Foreign Ministry asserted, stressing that Vietnam’s pandemic prevention and control has been acknowledged by the international community. The Foreign Ministry is also coordinating with the Health Ministry to arrange vaccination for more than 50 reporters and press assistants at foreign press agencies' offices in Vietnam early next week. Foreign citizens will be vaccinated when Vietnam receives more vaccines, with the aim to create herd immunity to drive back the pandemic.

2. WHO to send experts to help Viet Nam’s vaccine research and production The World Health Organization (WHO) will send experts to assist Viet Nam in vaccine search and production meeting international standards. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the statement during his phone conversation with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 24.

3. Health official calls for caution in vaccine authorisation The licensing of a COVID-19 vaccine, even for emergency use, must be based on sufficient scientific data. The four vaccines that are granted conditional approval in Việt Nam - AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Sinopharm's Vero Cell, and Pfizer - have passed phase 3 which involves 30,000-50,000 subjects. The current data shows the COVID-19 vaccine Nano Covax is safe and has immunogenic properties, but facts about its effectiveness have to wait for more research and further testing.
