Six Senses Con Dao broke records this week, with 100% hatching rate of endangered green turtles. Collected from Bay Canh island by the National Park, 99 turtle eggs were delivered to Six Senses Con Dao on June 3 for their conservation, and 99 baby turtles were release to the ocean. After receiving these precious eggs, a well-trained conservation team at the resort is employed to handle them with natural techniques ensuring all nests are in their best condition. The team constantly monitors sand temperature, to control the hatching rate and securing the environment from natural predators. The past 3 years, in collaboration with Con Dao National Park, Six Senses Con Dao’s own incubation center “Let’s Get Cracking” has since been home to many new turtle hatchings and established themselves as experts in this experience. Over 7000 baby turtles have been released to date and is the only resort in the country empowered to work with the competent authorities, in their protection. Thriving on the success of 2020, Six Senses Con Dao in this new season alone has successfully released 888 turtles back to nature; with an average hatching rate of an impressive 92.62% to date this year. This record breaking hatching rate, releasing 99 newly hatched turtles to the ocean, from 99 eggs, proves the careful and consistent effort that Six Senses Con Dao and the National Park have in the conservation of these precious species. Continuing on with their dedication to the environment, many initiatives are in progress during these times, at Six Senses Con Dao, including the upgraded water treatment plant whereby the Resort takes ordinary water and transform it into FDA approved mineral water for use by Hosts and guests alike, saving thousands of water bottles a year with zero carbon footprint. Work continues daily within the organic gardens, now over 1.5KM long to include nut trees, fig trees and and an increase in vegetables otherwise needed to be imported from the mainland. Hosts and community alike are enjoying the harvest Six Senses Con Dao brings, during these hardship times, as nature is thriving from the increase in habitats, flora and fauna some of which are unique to Con Dao. While Vietnam may be on pause for a while, Six Senses Con Dao remains committed to its effort of reducing carbon footprint, protecting green turtles, and providing an organic sustainable lifestyle for its hosts and community as normal.
