The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) is one of the key health programs of the health sector with a human resources network covering all communes, districts, and provinces nationwide. In recent years, continuous training for immunization staff has been implemented in many developed countries. This approach has proven effective in improving the quality of the workforce and increasing the commitment of healthcare workers, which is a core factor in the program's success, contributing to the sustainable improvement of immunization service quality.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the network of grassroots healthcare workers has undergone significant changes, and there is a growing demand for continuous training for immunization staff at the grassroots level, requiring additional resources. Currently, the EPI is implementing several new vaccines, including the Rota vaccine starting in 2024, the Td vaccine nationwide from 2025, the pneumococcal vaccine from 2025, and the HPV vaccine from 2026, among others. The University of Sydney Vietnam is eager to contribute to improving the capacity of immunization personnel by developing a continuous education program for healthcare workers at grassroot level.

In the framework of the “GAVI Middle-Income Country Strategy (MICS) Project” funded by GAVI, and with the aim of strengthening the capacity of grassroots healthcare workers in accessing, searching, and updating technical information, the University of Sydney Vietnam, in close collaboration with the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), is developing a user-friendly, easily accessible, and regularly updatable Immunisation E-book.
