SunRice's New Project in the Australia Vietnam Mekong Delta Sustainable Rice Value Chain Project
Dong Thap, 19 October 2022 - Assistant Minister for Trade and Manufacturing, Tim Ayres, launched a four-year $5 million project to establish a productive, sustainable rice value chain in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta when he visited Vietnam. Under this project, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and SunRice will work together to support livelihoods and help address climate change.
SunRice will partner with Australian and Vietnamese researchers to develop a new breed of rice that helps local farmers adapt to climate change and offers a fresh opportunity to increase exports from the Mekong Delta.
Australia’s rolled gold reputation in agriculture research and development has allowed the partnership to develop in the Delta, the rich agricultural area crucial for Vietnam’s food security that makes the developing nation one of the big rice producers worldwide.
The tour of Lap Vo Mill, Dong Thap was joined by Assistant Minister for Trade and Manufacturing, Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, ACIAR’s CEO, Andrew Campbell FTSE, and the Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Andrew Goledzinowski and Australian Consul General, Ho Chi Minh City, Sarah Hooper.
