Swinburne Vietnam & CPA Australia Successfully Hosted “The Future of Finance: Skills, Innovation & Career Success” Conference

On 23 January 2026, Swinburne University Vietnam and CPA Australia, both valued members of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AusCham), successfully co-hosted the conference “The Future of Finance: Skills, Innovation & Career Success”, bringing together industry leaders from consulting, banking, and professional services to discuss how the finance profession is evolving in the age of automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and data.

A key highlight of the event was the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between CPA Australia and Swinburne University Vietnam. The MOU marks an important milestone in strengthening collaboration between a leading global professional body and a world-class university, and reflects a shared vision to enhance education quality, professional pathways, and industry-relevant skills development in Vietnam. As the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, AusCham plays a central role in connecting its members, fostering meaningful partnerships, and creating platforms for collaboration, and was pleased to witness and support this meaningful member-to-member partnership.

The conference opened with opening remarks delivered by Mr Edwin Law, Executive Director of AusCham Vietnam, who emphasised the importance of closer collaboration between education institutions, professional bodies, and the business community in developing a future-ready finance workforce. He highlighted growing employer demand for globally recognised professional standards, strong digital capabilities, and a commitment to lifelong learning amid rapid technological change.

Throughout the conference, speakers highlighted a clear shift in the finance profession, from traditional accounting and operational roles towards strategic, technology-enabled decision-making functions. A consistent message emerged from the discussions: future finance professionals must combine strong technical fundamentals, global professional standards, and the ability to work effectively with technology, data, and automation — rather than compete against them.

The panel discussion “From Campus to Career” further explored the gap between academic learning and real-world expectations, reinforcing the importance of early industry exposure, continuous upskilling, and the right professional mindset to succeed in an increasingly dynamic and competitive finance landscape.

Beyond forward-looking dialogue, the conference demonstrated the value of collaboration between education, professional bodies, and the Australian business community in Vietnam — supporting talent development and long-term career success in the finance and accounting profession.
