Activity in Vietnam
WSU has been working with its flagship institution partner the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) on various joint academic programs and research initiatives since 2008. WSU Vietnam Campus was established in December 2015 in collaboration with UEH to deliver full Bachelor of Business and MBA programs in Vietnam to attract not only Vietnamese students but also students from the surrounding countries in the ASEAN and East Asia region.
WSU has a number of Australian Government funded New Colombo Plan projects and short study tour programs to Vietnam in the past decade. The Vietnam Immersion Experience project offers business students the opportunity to gain exposure to life as an expatriate by working and living in Vietnam for a period of six to eight weeks. Students will receive mentorship from senior management within their host organisation as they participate in a structured work placement program that will highlight the accessibility of working in the Indo-Pacific region. Students participated in short study tour programs are also engaging in research projects involving in class and field activities allow WSU students and Vietnamese students to participate in cultural exchange, often leading to the start of international networks.
The reciprocal relationship between countries is reinforced with students introducing the game of AFL football to Vietnamese students and donating sporting equipment to the host organisations.
In addition to business students, groups of social science, community development, planning and tourism students also travel to urban centres and rural communities in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam where the challenges of rural and urban development are being addressed through community development. Drawing on the principles of experiential learning, this program allows students to learn through direct engagement with local culture, problems and practices.
WSU works with a number of high quality international education agents across Vietnam to promote WSU as the study abroad destination to Vietnamese students.
